A New Blog Series on Sabbaticals!
When you hear the word “sabbatical” what comes to mind?
I picture an older gentleman, a pastor or a professor, sitting in a cabin by a lake. It’s quiet. He’s removed from his normal commitments and schedule. He’s got a stack of books and a pot full of coffee. Maybe some quiet music is playing in the background.
As I mull over that peaceful scene, I hear my own children fighting over who gets the pink cup. I have a half made grocery list next to me. I have a to-do list that desperately needs my attention. And my view is of a bucket of toys that has been emptied unnecessarily on the floor, complete with play-dough caked on the rug, and no less than seven kid sized cups half-filled with various liquids strategically placed on every surface I can see.
In this moment a sabbatical seems unattainable and unrealistic for a mom like me. And if I were you I’d be wondering why on earth you’re telling me about something I can’t have!
But that’s the whole purpose of this new series:
- To encourage you to take a sabbatical
- To give you some practical tips for how to take one
- To share the purpose and potential impact a sabbatical can have for every day people like us
A sabbatical is simply a time of extended rest and focus. It’s a chance to press the reset button on our priorities. It’s an opportunity to look to the Lord and remember who he is and the promises he has made to you. And it can bring renewed purpose, vision, and priority to your life.
Sabbaticals are not a self-help tool. It is not about self-improvement. It is about your relationship with Jesus – and giving yourself space to rest in his abundant grace and love toward you.
So, if you want to learn more about how you can take a sabbatical and my own journey taking one – then I hope you’ll join me in this new series!
May these upcoming posts encourage your weary heart to rest more deeply in Jesus!
