How to Remove Super Glue From Your Fingers (or Happy First Day of School)

Today’s post is brought to you by gorilla-glue, a child whose super power is fixating on messy craft projects, and a mom who still can’t feel the pads on two of her fingers.

As I’m typing this my three older children are on their way to school. It will be the first time in months that I have not been with them for 8 hours in a row.

I love my children. They are curious, funny, creative, observative, unreserved, opinionated, and brave. They wear their hearts on their sleeves, and they love big.

They also decide that they must do craft projects at the worst possible times.

Dinner is ready? I have to do this glitter project immediately, and yes mom it is imperative that I dump this packet of glitter on the dining table. I promise it’ll just take a minute!

You want me to get ready for bed? Okay, but first I MUST glue this project together and actually I need you to glue it because the glue bottle is stuck. If you don’t help me with this I’ll never be able to fall asleep!

Mom what are you doing at the sink? Why do you look so annoyed? Oh…. your fingers are stuck together? Because the superglue bottle leaked? Your nails look funny… you can’t feel your fingers? That nail polish remover smells bad, can’t you soak your fingers somewhere else?

And really this was the perfect way to end our summer. Little could make me more excited for them to pack their bags and do their crafts somewhere else, with other adults helping with the glue bottles, and the glitter, and the permanent markers.

This afternoon I’ll greet them each with a smile and a hug and want to hear all about their first day. We will celebrate with ice cream and early bed times. It will be a joyous reunion. And maybe enough glue will have rubbed off so I’ll be able to feel myself rubbing their backs during bed time prayers.

And they wonder why I won’t get them a dog.

P.S. If you ever find yourself needing to remove super glue from your fingers, you can soak them in warm soapy water or nail polish remover to help break down the glue. Then use a pumice stone and gently rub the glue off your skin. I still have glue on my nails… so if you figure out how to remove that part let me know!

I love hearing from you!
