The Truths My Weary Heart Needs
If you are curious about what my weary heart needs to be reminded of on a daily basis… it is this:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is his faithfulness.
These promises in Lamentations 3:22-23 seem simple at first glance. Isn’t the idea of “Jesus loves me” too basic for a grown up like me?
But the truth is that our hearts are prone to forget the most basic of truths. And suffering can cloud our perspective of God’s character faster than we like to admit. If I don’t regularly remind myself that Jesus loves me, then the hard days and the dark nights feel like punishments and abandonment. And sufferings become “proof” that God is not near.
It is helpful to remind myself of these things, but I can’t just give myself a pep talk. These promises must be rooted in something deeper than my own wishes. That is where God’s Word, and faithful community come into play.
If you are like me and you sometimes wrestle with the basic truth of God loving you… especially in light of your sufferings… then this article I wrote is for you:
May your weary heart be encouraged today friend – Jesus really does love you.
